ABOUT MEI graduated from Brighton university in Fine Art (BA Honours) in July 2007. I am now working as an independent artist.
Through painting I aim to create an experience for the viewer, for them to take a moment out of reality for thought and enjoyment. I intend to do this through the surface of the painting. However it is not just an experience for the viewer, the process of creation is also an experience for me and something I wish to be evident in my work. For me this process of painting is a period of intensity. I become involved in the material of the paint itself. I try to keep a balance between the paint being highly controlled and sculpted and as though it has just been roughly applied and left on the surface. The latter, I find the hardest. The marks that are made quickly are a kind of reflex. It takes a lot of control to leave them unchanged until the painting is complete. These marks seem to have just landed upon the surface. They are the hardest to come by but are by far superior to anything else I can create. It is through intense concentration and enjoyment of involvement in my ideas that this time comes. In this instant I somehow know what to do, what marks to make, where to make them and what colours to use. It is only after this time that my painting is complete. There is no definitive time period to reach this stage. The only thing I can do as a painter to encourage this experience to occur is continue to work organically, be open to it and allow the painting to control me. Only when the painting has conquered me is my work finished. LINKS to my facebook and myspace pages. http://www.myspace.com/165413344 http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=859555576
